Guide to Levels

Introductory
For students who are new to alignment-based yoga, including those who may have some experience with other forms of yoga. Students build confidence in the standing poses and learn basic yoga concepts including active relaxation. The correct use of yoga props (blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters) is introduced to help students get the most from their practice. View schedule
Level 1
Standing poses are emphasized and basic inverted poses are introduced. Emphasis is on building confidence and steadiness in the poses. Students will explore the mechanics of forward bending and back extension and will learn additional skills to aid relaxation. Most students can expect to repeat the Level 1 series before moving to Level 2. View schedule
Level 2
For students who have practiced alignment-based yoga for at least six months. We will continue forward with standing poses, forward bending, back extension and shoulderstand (sarvangasana). Headstand (sirsasana) is introduced as well as restorative practices. Students need to have had a very consistent alignment-based practice in order to attend Level 2 classes and higher. View schedule
Level 1 & 2
This is a mixed-level class, focusing on further instruction in the standing poses to build your confidence and steadiness. We will also teach back extension, inverted poses, forward bending and twists. The teacher will help you advance your practice when it becomes clear you are ready. You must have practiced shoulderstand to attend this class.  View schedule

For Women
If you are pregnant: Yoga can help you and your baby have a happier and healthier pregnancy. It is particularly important to take special care in your yoga practice. Please be sure to discuss your pregnancy with your teacher from the very beginning. And plan to attend the Prenatal Series of Classes.

When you are menstruating: This is a great time to practice yoga! Some poses will be better for you than others, and there are several recommended poses to help you feel better. Likewise, it is suggested that you avoid inversions and abdominal poses when you are having your period. Let the teacher know so she can help you make healthy choices for your practice.

Personal Practice Time @ EYC

Tuesday mornings 7 – 8:30am

Our center will be open for those who want to deepen their practice through self-study.

Ideas for what to practice:

  • what you remember from class
  • a practice from a yoga book
  • a sequence of poses I will write out for you

This is not a class - but an organized time for you to practice on your own in a quiet, clear space. Experimenting with the poses on your own will deepen your knowledge and understanding. You don’t have to know everything to start - just have a sincere desire to learn and the willingness to try.

Come anytime between 7 & 7:45. The studio will be open until 8:30am.

Those who want to do a sitting meditation practice can sit in the massage room.

Guidelines for participating:

  • Must have consistently attended class for 2 series.
  • Must be signed up for the Summer series.
  • If you want to attend the self-practice times and the above guidelines cannot be met, discuss your desire with Leah privately.

$6 per Tuesday morning practice. Or $20 for the month.
