The amazing treatment with the interesting name. This warming massage treatment can be done very soon after vaginal delivery. We’ve chosen to keep this treatment’s original name in honor of the long-established tradition of nurturing the new mother with warmth and well-wishes for healing.
Midwife Raven Lang uses the term Mother Roasting to refer to cross-cultural practices that use heat to warm the new mother. Heat is historically part of the postpartum regimen from Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, to Australia and the American Southwest. Also, Traditional Chinese Medicine has long recognized the importance of heat in replenishing the mother's energy and encouraging healing. Drawing on these traditions, Lorrie has designed this treatment to support the mother after childbirth.
The 75 - minute treatment uses warming oils, abdominal massage, stimulation of acupressure points, and warming/massage with hot stones to facilitate deep relaxation and encourage healing. Additional benefits include the release of tight, strained muscles, decreased fluid retention, increased lactation, and relief from constipation. Appropriate beginning 1 to 2 weeks after delivery - contraindicated for women delivering by caesarean.
